Starting point: San Juan

This scenic road trip will take off in Old San Juan. The streets are lined with colorful buildings, views of the Atlantic ocean, reflecting the city’s distinct character. The design of the San Juan is shaped by Taíno, African, Spanish, and American influences. Demonstrations of the city’s cultural evolution can be experienced through the music, food, architecture, and way of life. Take time to explore the galleries, music, dance, and local food tucked throughout this historic district before heading south to your next destination.

Featured above, Casa Sol (left) is the perfect choice to stay in the historic center of Old San Juan. You will be steps away from landmarks El Morro and La Fortaleza. Exploring Southbound

Leaving behind the vibrant streets of San Juan, you'll head south into the island’s central mountains, where scenic views will soon surround you. On our map, you’ll find marked stops for natural swimming holes, lookout points, and the famous Ruta del Lechón. Referred to as the pork highway, this stretch in Guavate is packed with local food stands, live music, and small shops for souvenirs. After a taste of true Puerto Rican festivity, enjoy one of the short trails or natural pools to stretch your legs and cool off.

Continuing toward Ponce, consider stopping by the Coamo Hot Springs, a relaxing natural thermal bath believed to have healing properties. The springs are easy to access from the main route and make a great family-friendly stop, complete with a small petting zoo for kids to enjoy. If you have time on your trip, take a scenic detour to Sandra Farms in Adjuntas. You can explore property, taste some chocolate and coffee tasting, and learn about their sustainable production.
