The Rainforest Inn. A Cozy Upstairs Chalet. Weekly, Daily rental

Left to right: kitchen, hall, living room at Rainforest Inn El Yunque Puerto Rico
A cozy combination of bricks, pine, cedar & a pitched roof, very unusual in Puerto Rico.

Why stay up in the rain forest?
A million Coquí's, gentle rain showers, cool mountain breezes. Panoramic views. The best sleep you ever had. The 'Rainforest Inn' is in a secure gated community at the top of a mile long private drive. You are not just visiting the rainforest, you are immersed in the sounds and scents of the rainforest. Days are surprisingly warm and sunny here! Nights are cool. So very close to the world below, yet miles away in spirit.

Sheer tropical indulgence consists of driving 15 minutes down the mountain to the sea, then up the mountain again in the late afternoon to a cool retreat where the only sounds are those of the wind, rain and a million Coqui frogs singing you to sleep.

Why stay in our Cosy Villa? The Rainforest Inn presently offers a cozy upstairs chalet with two bedrooms and a kitchen, surrounded by porch with lovely views of the forest and distant ocean. It is a very secluded and intimate lodging for the adventurous (or lazy!) located on a five acre property bordering the El Yunque National rain forest. You are never completely alone, it just seems that way. The owners live on the property too and are very helpful as you plan your days and evenings.

Entrance door on front balcony, back balcony, side balcony with hammock

The upstairs apartment rental is a cozy retreat. There will be days when you will want to linger here and read a book in the hammock. Other days, when you wake up and the sun is brilliant, you will want to hike into the forest to a mountain river with pools and waterfalls to jump into! Of course, you will want to go swimming at Luquillo beach too. Evenings you can dine in nearby Luquillo Beach, Fajardo or even San Juan.

Evenings usually bring a little rainfall and the melodious sounds of the little coquis. If you are lucky you will hear the screech owls call or perhaps the scree of a passing redtailed hawk.

Two bedrooms in El Yunque Puerto Rico

One bedroom (left) has two beds and the other one bed. One bath in between.

Up the road, 'The Lost Machete Hike' winds through the jungle and ends at one of the rivers larger pools at the top of a waterfall. This is a private trail where you will not encounter others. Bill will guide you on an amazing hike, if you arrange it, Laurie is an flower and plant expert and can show you around the grounds and point out the exotics they grow for their flower business.

There are dogs on the property (well behaved dogs) and a cat too.

Located east of San Juan, halfway to Fajardo. It is a 15 minutes drive down the mountain to the main road #3 by Rio Grande, 45 minutes to the airport and 20 minutes to Luquillo Beach. You will need to have a rental car to stay here.

Prices for the upstairs villa are usually $135. per night. At this moment the grounds are a little messy as we are renovating two other villas ( left over damage from the last hurricane) and adding a roof. We are very careful never to do any construction when we have guests. For now, we have reduced the price to $650. a week for two people. A little more for 4 people. Shorter stays can be arranged.
